CLYDE -- Authorities have called off the search for two men who apparently disappeared more than a week ago while fishing on the Erie Canal in central New York.
The search for 46-year-old Jacob Simmons and 45-year-old Michael Murray began on April 29 when they didn't return from an outing on the canal in the Wayne County village of Clyde, where they lived.
Emergency crews, police and volunteers searched a 3-mile stretch of the waterway for several days without finding the men. Several items from Murray's missing boat, including a life jacket and a gas can, were found in the water.
Relatives of the two men say they were known to fish together along the canal.
