HIT: To everyone involved in the second annual YMCA 2009 Bowl-A-Thon at Starlite Lanes.
This Friday night event was a fundraiser for the Y-PALS program, which provides youth mentoring through the YMCA. Participating bowlers collected pledges and competed for prizes.
Kudos to the organizations that took part, and the bowlers who made the effort to help out this worthy program.
HIT: To the successful Herb and Wine Festival held the past two weekends at the wineries along the Cayuga Wine Trail.
The annual event once again brought steady crowds to the wineries on both sides of the lake. It's a great kick-start for the busy wine trail spring season, and it truly showcases some of the region's strongest tourism assets.
MISS: To the lack of coordination Gov. David Paterson's office took in announcing a new round of federal stimulus infrastructure projects.
A press release from the governor's office issued Friday said numerous bridges in central New York, including Cayuga County, had been selected for repainting or rehabilitation work. The problem was, neither the governor's office nor the state Department of Transportation could identify the specific bridges that will be upgraded.
We know the governor is eager for some positive headlines attached to his name these days, but he should at least get all the basic facts together before putting out these announcements.
HIT: To the start of another season for the Auburn Chamber Orchestra. A performance of “Sousa Night Fever” will launch the season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 112 South St., Auburn.
The orchestra has consistently offered wonderful music for local residents, and we're sure this year will not be an exception.
