Leary shoots season-low 36; Auburn softball wins

Andy Leary shot a season-low 36 and was the medalist in a 224-247 Port Byron win against Bishop Ludden in boys golf action Monday.
Port Byron's Josh Malenick and J.T. Debois both carded a 44, Cody Abraham and Adam Malenick each shot a 50, and Dan O'Hara finished with a 51.

The Panthers (6-2) travel to Cato-Meridian today.

Groton 212, Southern Cayuga 213

The Chiefs' Lewis Morse carded a 39, Ryan Killian shot a 42, Kyle Hurd-Perez finished with a 43, Jordan Dean contributed a 44 and Justin Walter shot a 45.

Southern Cayuga hosts Moravia today.

Bishop Grimes 263, Weedsport 264

Weedsport's Jason Ryan shot a 41, Jake DeChick had a 43 and Drew Lane carded a 44.

GIRLS GOLF

Auburn 193, Oswego 228

Larissa Carter was the medalist of the match, shooting a 41 for the Maroons while Megan Cahill had a 47.

Auburn travels to play West Genesee today.

SOFTBALL

Auburn 14, Corcoran 3

The Maroons pounded out 15 hits in an offensive attack led by Jamie Bruno and Meg Feocco with three hits apiece. Feocco also added three RBIs.

Nikki Neagle contributed two hits with one double and three RBIs, Ali VanGiesen smacked two hits with one double and two RBIs, and Kelly Grinnell finished with two hits and one RBI.

Haley Jordan (RBI), Jessica VanGiesen (RBI) and Stefanie Spinney each collected one hit for the Maroons.

Ali VanGiesen pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out 11 and walking three.

Auburn hosts Nottingham today.

Cazenovia 8, Skaneateles 5

Zoe Hilpl pitched a complete game, fanning six and scattering eight hits in the loss. Skaneateles was down 6-0 going into the sixth inning, but put up a fight.

“We earned two in the sixth and three in the seventh,” Lakers coach Bob Braunitzer said. “We made it a game after that and they are definitely improving. We had a few errors that cost us a little bit but otherwise we played a solid game.”

Pacing the Skaneateles offense were Erica Tardiff who contributed two hits with a double and two RBIs, Emily Call hit an RBI triple, and Emily Devins and Jackie Leslie both added one hit.

The Lakers (1-8) host Homer Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Moravia 7, Newfield 6

The Blue Devils knocked off Newfield, who was undefeated in the division, as Greg Pasho earned his fourth win, striking out 10 in a complete game.

Moravia's Cody Langtry went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Nick Dwyer added two hits with a double, and Dylan Turner and Dillon Langtry both contributed one hit.

The Blue Devils (6-6) host Tyburn today.

Cato-Meridian 15, LaFayette 1

Andy Wegman struck out nine while allowing six hits and one run for the Blue Devils.

Brandon Bardo also pitched an inning, recording a strikeout.

In the 15-hit attack, Joe Gray went 3-for-4 with three singles and two stolen bases, Preston Dennison was 3-for-5 with two singles, one double and one stolen base, Shay Stanistreet contributed one hit, two RBIs and two runs, Joey Giuffrida added a double, two RBIs and three runs, Ethan Pratt hit a single and two RBIs, Matt Schmitt had an RBI triple, and Pat Walton added an RBI single.

The Blue Devils host Faith Heritage Wednesday.

Faith Heritage 6, Port Byron 2

Jake Bennett suffered the loss, pitching a complete game with nine strikeouts and one walk. Caleb Green hit a double while Jamie Cuff and DJ Helmer both singled.

The Panthers (2-8) host Pulaski today.

Groton 4, Union Springs 1

Justin Lyndaker allowed two earned runs in six innings, striking out four. Jared Bretherton scored the only run for the Wolves.

Union Springs (5-7 overall, 5-2 IAC) hosts Southern Cayuga Wednesday.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Groton 63, Moravia 62

The Blue Devils won the 4x100m relay (49.6) with Evy Thompson, Eric Stepanski, Zach Campenella and Jeremy Stewart.

Stewart also won the long jump (17-5) and the high jump (5-8) while Campenella took first in the 110m hurdles (18.0).

Also earning wins for Moravia were Jason Phillips in the 1600m (4:57.1) and the 800m (2:11.7), and Logan Crandall in the discus (95-2) and the shot put (39-6).

The Blue Devils compete at the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

Union Springs 97, Southern Cayuga 33

The Wolves' Vinnie Salato won the 100m (11.6), the 200m (24.1), the shot put (38-0.5) and was a leg in the winning 4x100m relay (45.6) with Brandon Winter, Nate Markham and Scott Wood.

Wood also won the 110m hurdles (16.1), the 400m hurdles (1:03.5) and was a leg in the winning 4x400m relay (3:51.8) with Markham, Shane Groom and Josh Terry.

Terry was also part of the winning 4x800m relay (10:09.2) with Sean Zimmer, Jake Spina and Zach Casper.

Union Springs' Winter won the 400m (54.6), J.P. Garropy won the long jump (18-3.5) and Joe Feocco won both the triple jump (37-5.75) and the high jump (5-4).

The Chiefs' Kyle Howe won the discus (98-1), Griffon Farlow won the 3200m (10:31.8), Alex Schmitt took first in the 800m (2:12.5) and Patrick Redmond won the 1600m (5:08.1).

Union Springs (5-0) travels to the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Moravia 60, Groton 45

Claire Hunsinger earned three first-place finishes for the Blue Devils - the triple jump (31-1.5), the long jump (14-0) and the 100m hurdles (19.0), while also finishing second in the high jump (4-6).

Kelleyanne McElfresh had a personal best in the 100m (13.8) and another personal best in the 400m (1:08.1), while also running a leg in the winning 4x100m relay (56.5) and the 4x400m relay (4:47.8).

Other members of both relays included Alicia McLaughlin, Kaylee Williams and Morgan Denman.

Williams also earned a win in the 200m with a personal-best 30.0. McLaughlin won the 400m hurdles (1:19.1) and the 200m (30.7), which was also a personal best.

Jen Cornwell won the shot put (31-8) and the discus (98-0).

The Blue Devils travel to the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

Union Springs 67, Southern Cayuga 28

The Wolves' Alexa Schooley took first in the 800m (2:51.0) and the high jump (4-2), tied for first in the 100m hurdles (19.1) with Danielle Lyndaker and ran a leg in the winning 4x400m relay (4:46.4) with Michelle Wilmot, Lyndaker and Kati Stolz.

Wilmot also won the long jump (13-3) and the triple jump (28-8.25), while Lyndaker won the 400m hurdles (1:18.9) and Stolz won the shot put (26-1).

Also winning for Union Springs were the 4x100m relay team (1:03.1) of Miranda Kirschner, Kim Seimyre, Amanda Shepherd and Alison Guyle. Guyle won the 200m (32.3) and the discus (64-7).

Southern Cayuga's Kim Burke won the 1500m (5:32.0), Emily Heslop finished first in the 400m (1:06.7) and Theresa Miller won the 100m (14.3).

The Wolves (3-2) compete at the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.
