HIT: To Glenn Martin, a mason from Clyde, who has purchased the Port Byron hotel building.
Martin plans on using the building's top floors for apartments and the bottom floor for a restaurant.
It's good to see in these times, a person buying a building with plans to renovate and make it better.
Of course, the restaurant will need employees, and that means new jobs.
Hopefully Martin's plans will come to fruition.
MISS: To a leak of either kerosene or diesel fuel in the Owasco River this week.
The leak was discovered and the Auburn Fire Department and state DEC workers tried to keep the spill from spreading.
It appeared the leak originated from a storm drain near Market Street. Hopefully, the worst of it was caught and contained.
The river and the bodies of water it is connected to don't need any more pollution.
HIT: To last call at Morris's Grill in Skaneateles - a real last call. A dispute between the building's owners and the bar ended in court, then with an eviction, a sudden close to a popular watering hole.
But fortunately, all the parties involved worked out a compromise, Morris's is open for a final week before closing for good. It's a chance for a last toast and a final good-bye for loyal customers and friends.
HIT: To a fundraiser at Applebee's in Auburn this week for the Special Olympics.
Local law enforcement officers helped take care of customers on Wednesday and collected “tips” to benefit Special Olympics athletes.
Special Olympics New York partnered with the restaurant chain statewide to educate people about the Special Olympics, the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, and its mission of providing year-round training and competition to benefit special athletes.
