NEW YORK - Former New York Rep. Vito Fossella is spending his weekend in a Virginia jail.
Fossella reported to the Alexandria Detention Center on Friday afternoon for a two-day stay. One of his lawyers dropped him off in a black SUV.
The former Staten Island congressman pleaded guilty to drunken driving on Monday.
His jury trial had been set to begin that day in the case that ruined his political career.
His May 1 arrest led to revelations he had fathered a child in an extramarital affair.
Alexandria Sheriff's Office spokesman Harry Covert says he'll probably be kept alone in a small white cell with long slits for windows but may get a roommate if the jail gets crowded.
The cell will also have a steel sink and toilet and a cement bunk for a bed.
Fossella also must spend a second weekend in jail.
