AUBURN - A Port Byron man accused of running a large marijuana ring pleaded not guilty in Cayuga County Court Tuesday to one felony count of criminal possession of marijuana.
Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said David Smith, 45, of 8404 E. Loop Road, is accused of storing more than eight pounds of marijuana in coolers, his garage and under his trailer.
Budelmann said the marijuana was packed into several small bags for distribution and estimated the marijuana's street value to be somewhere between $16,000 and $32,000.
Budelmann said he did not know all the specifics of the search and seizure by law enforcement on Oct. 30 because Cayuga County Judge Mark Fandrich had just unsealed the search warrant.
Smith is currently free on bail of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
