The Downtown Auburn Business Improvement District announced this week that the upcoming Founder's Day celebration will include a parade and a float contest.
According to an announcement from the BID, cash prizes will be awarded to the best floats with an Alaska theme. Participants are encouraged to depict a scene involving Alaskan wildlife, scenery or native culture for the $150, $100 and $75 first, second and third prize.
While the float contest is Alaskan themed, the parade can include any entry, including bands, choirs, marchers, horse teams, cars or others.
The city has been planning the June 6 Founder's Day celebration for months. This year's Alaskan theme is in celebration of the state's 50th anniversary.
After the parade, which begins at 11 a.m., there will be music, food, art, crafts and other activities. Call the BID office at 252-7874 to obtain a registration form. The deadline to register for the parade is May 22.
