ALBANY -- State utility regulators have approved $24 million in rebates for natural gas customers who install energy efficient furnaces, boilers and other equipment.
The Public Service Commission says the program targets one- to four-family houses. There are nearly 4.3 million residential gas customers in the state.
Participating utilities include Central Hudson Gas and Electric, Consolidated Edison, Corning Natural Gas, KeySpan Energy, New York State Electric and Gas, National Grid, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Rochester Gas and Electric, and St. Lawrence Gas Company.
Rebates range from $25 for programmable thermostats to $1,000 for high-efficiency boilers.
The "System Benefits Charge" paid by gas customers funds the program.
