HIT: To Lauren Dates for his efforts to establish a local Vietnam veterans memorial highway.
The Victory man is trying to get state Route 38 designated as a memorial highway for the veterans.
Veterans can never be thanked enough for their service and sacrifice for this country. Vietnam veterans certainly deserve any honor that reminds us of what they went through during a difficult time in our country's history.
MISS: To upcoming delays on the Thruway between exits 39 and 40.
We know the roadwork is needed, but no one likes their travel time increased.
The three-year project will eventually make the Thruway between Weedsport and Syracuse a smoother and safer ride.
In the meantime, we just need to show patience and, of course, obey construction zone speed limits.
HIT: To a memorial service held this week for fallen Auburn firefighters.
Over the years, some of Auburn's bravest have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
The annual service is a fitting way to pause and remember that sacrifice.
HIT: To Peter Brooks, who is opening a cosmetology school in Auburn this year.
Isn't it nice to hear the word open in regards to something?
It's nice to see someone take a chance and follow their dream, even better when it has a positive impact on the economic community also.
Brooks' school has been getting inquiries from all over New York.
No matter the economic climate, people need to have their hair cut and styled, plus other cosmetic procedures.
A school is a great way to tap into that market.
