The Auburn City Council will meet Thursday at a different place and time to decide whether to update the city's geographic information system and conduct other city business.
The council will vote during its weekly meeting on a resolution that would authorize the administration of a grant to fund a study of the city's GIS needs and update the program accordingly. Instead of the normal meeting time and place of 6 p.m. at Memorial City Hall, this week's meeting is 4 p.m. at the Auburn Public Theater on Genesee Street, Auburn.
If approved, the study would be carried out by Rome, N.Y., firm PAR Government Systems Corporation. The cost of the study is approximately $10,000, which would be covered by the grant, according to the proposal.
GIS is an information tool used by city departments such as fire, police, public works and engineering to gather and administer spatial data.
Councilors unanimously voted last week to change the meeting place and time as a show of support to the Auburn Public Theater, which is undergoing major renovations.
