ILION -- Police in upstate New York are looking for a missing human skeleton — with three missing fingers.
Ilion (IHL'-ee-uhn) police put out a statement Wednesday assuring the public it was no prank or April Fool's Day joke.
The skeleton was stolen from the Herkimer County BOCES Nursing Training Program at the former Mohawk Valley General Hospital. The school has owned the male skeleton since 1963.
The skeleton is valued at between $5,000 and $6,000. It was in storage and police believe it was taken between Feb. 16 and March 23, when the theft was discovered.
Aside from the three missing fingers, officials say the skeleton is complete and in near perfect condition.
Ilion is about 70 miles east of Syracuse.
