Centro announced this week that it is phasing out its tokens and replacing them with muti-ride passes. Previously purchased tokens must be used before Aug. 1.
According to a news release from Centro, 10-ride passes will become available in May in Auburn, Oswego and Syracuse, replacing 10-token packs. The passes will be available and priced for adults or those who qualify for half-price fares.
In addition, Centro will expand the availability of its seven-day and 30-day unlimited ride passes to customers who ride within Auburn, Oswego and Fulton. The new passes come as Centro phases out the use of tokens in all of its bus systems.
Centro has discontinued all token sales to the general public and is encouraging customers to use their tokens before a fare increase goes into effect on May 4, raising the cost of an adult one-way fare from $.60 to $.75 in Auburn and Oswego and from $1 to $1.25 in Syracuse.
Centro will continue to accept tokens on its buses only until July 31. However, those using tokens after May 4 will be required to pay the difference in the purchase price of the token and the new fare.
For example, an adult using a token in Auburn after May 4 will be required to pay 15 cents in addition to the bus token.
