Major Thruway reconstruction project between Exits 39 and 40 starts next week
LIVERPOOL -- Thruway commuters between Cayuga County and Syracuse will need to rethink driving habits for a while, starting next week.
A major New York State Thruway Authority construction project is poised to begin the week of April 6 between those exits, causing minor delays and possible detours, officials announced at a press conference Monday at the agency's regional office.
Right now, the westbound lanes are being prepared for two-way traffic with two 11-foot lanes separated by a 32-inch high concrete barrier. No overwide vehicles will be allowed. The eastbound lane will be the first to be torn up for the $128 million, three-year reconstruction project.
