MAMAKATING, N.Y. - A toddler has been found dead in the snow off a New York road after she wandered from her home with outside temperatures in single digits.
Three-year-old Cassandra Weronick was found in a snow bank around 7 a.m. in the Sullivan County town of Mamakating, a community just south of the Catskills about 70 miles northwest of New York City.
Police say that when the girl's family realized she was missing Wednesday morning, they went out to search for her. A passer-by found Cassandra less than a mile way from the family's home.
She was found shoeless, wearing only a diaper and a T-shirt.
Police say she likely died from exposure.
No charges have been filed.
