Ice Hawks win Don Vetter Classic

Casey Komanecky and Mike May each scored twice to help lead the Auburn Ice Hawks 4M Precision Stamping, Inc. Squirt Division hockey team to a 7-3 victory over Perinton in the championship game of the Don Vetter Memorial Spring Classic Sunday.
Kaiden Tubbert and Adam Lupo each added one goal and one assist, TJ Reilly scored once, John Duffy had three assists and Logan Enge finished with one.

CJ Panek had 20 saves.

In the semifinals, Auburn defeated Canandaigua 9-0.

Leaders were Enge (one goal, one assist), Lupo (two goals, one assist), Tubbert (two goals, one assist), May (one goal, one assist), Reilly (one goal), Duffy (one goal, one assist), Komanecky (one goal), Reed Chronis (one assist) and Jack Farrington (one assist).

Panek finished with 13 saves, and the defense was led by May and Komanecky.

Team members include May, Duffy, Komanecky, Farrington, Henry Foresman, Reilly, Panek, Tubbert, Tyler Ely, Chronis, Jake Morin, Lupo and Enge. The coaches are Al Morin, Mike May and Steve Komanecky.

Auburn also won the overall skills competition held at the tournament. May won for fastest shot, Farrington won most goalie saves and the team relay was won by Enge, Komanecky, Chronis, May, Farrington and Panek.

Auburn 6, Salmon River 1

Leading the Ice Hawks were Jamie Edwards and Beau Walters with two goals each, Jack Hensel contributed one goal and one assist, Connor Hastings added a goal, and Jordan Jackson tallied two assists.

Mike Vitale, Austin Wansor, Zeke Sliwka and Justin Giannone played well defensively for Auburn while Ian Stevens recorded 22 saves.

Valley 7, Auburn 4

Jordan Jackson scored two goals to pace the Ice Hawks, Jack Hensel and Beau Walters each posted one goal and one assist, and Josh Edwards finished with one assist.

Isaac Shepard also played well offensively for Auburn while Ian Stevens collected 33 saves.

Auburn 2, Geneva 2

Jordan Jackson and Jack Hensel posted one goal apiece, while Mike Vitale, Austin Wansor, Austin Gregory, Zeke Sliwka and Justin Giannone led the Auburn defense. Sean Walsh and Corey Cardinale played well offensively while Ian Stevens earned 27 saves.

Skaneateles 2, Auburn 0

Ian Stevens recorded 27 saves to pace the Ice Hawks.
