St. Alphonsus finishes second in CYO tourney

The St. Alphonsus CYO basketball team finished second in the Bishop Kearney Diocesan Tournament last weekend.
In the opening game, St. Alphonsus got past Holy Cross, of Rochester 72-36.

Justin Fasce earned 43 points to lead St. Alphonsus while Ryan McCormick and Brandon Fasce added 12 points apiece.

TJ Sochan, Devin Guinnip and Katie Cooper played well defensively.

It was a 71-58 victory in the second round for St. Alphonsus as they defeated St. Michaels, of Newark.

McCormick led with 39 points while Justin Fasce finished with 23 points.

Leading St. Alphonsus defensively were Brandon Fasce, Erica Dragone and Lauren Guinnip.

In the championship game, St. Alphonsus fell 55-42 to St. Mary our Mother, of Horseheads.

Pacing St. Alphonsus were McCormick with 16 points, Justin Fasce with 15 points, and Devin Guinnip and Sochan also played well.

SIXTH GRADE BOYS

Auburn I Five Star Bank 50, Auburn II 22

Joe Tozzi led Auburn I in the league championship game at Cayuga Community College, scoring a season-high 18 points while Nick Petrosino added 14, Tony D'Arpino finished with eight and Brent Debois led defensively.

Auburn II was paced by Andre Telfair with 11 points and Pat Ladouce contributed seven points.

In the semifinals, Auburn I topped Auburn III, 49-31.

Kevin DiCola drilled five 3-pointers for a season-high 26 points to lead Auburn I while Petrosino chipped in 13 points, Joe Tozzi collected six points and Ryan Dailey played well defensively.

Pacing Auburn III were Jack Burgmaster with 16 points, Anthony Daniels with nine points and Mike O'Hearn with six points.

Auburn III 33, Auburn IV 25

Leading Auburn III were Jack Burgmaster who collected 15 points, Nicholas Covich contributed 10 points, and Isaiah Levy and Anthony Daniels played strong defense.

Akim Ali paced Auburn IV with 13 points.

EIGHTH GRADE BOYS

Auburn Kiwanis 52, Southern Cayuga 33

Kareef Rufus led a well-balanced scoring attack while Luke Boddicker and Tyler Carroll led the defense for the Auburn Kiwanis who earned the championship win.

In the semifinal game, Auburn Kiwanis defeated Union Springs 50-38 as Chris Courtney and Tyler Ladd led offensively.

Rob Relfe played well defensively and Luke Boddicker rebounded well for Auburn.
