The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce has appointed an interim executive director while the organization searches for a permanent replacement for the late Terri Bridenbecker.
Pamela Kirkwood, vice president of administration and founding board member of Auburn BioDiesel Corporation, started with the chamber on March 10, the organization announced Monday.
Kirkwood could not be reached for comment.
In a press release, she said she worked with Bridenbecker and served on the board during her directorship and that she was honored and privileged to be asked to step in as interim director.
Elaine Buffington, chamber treasurer and member of the executive board, said the organization has formed an executive search committee to start looking for a permanent replacement and had formulated a new job description that was in keeping with strategic planning goals begun a year ago.
“With Terri, the position was evolving to be strong and influential in the business and community climate,” Buffington said, referring to Bridenbecker, who died suddenly on Jan. 4.
“The search committee is taking its time,” Buffington said. “We're not moving quickly with Pam in the (interim) position.”
The board has no definite timeline, but it will advertise the opening at the end of this week. The chamber is doing a regional search in central New York.
“We've got a lot of talent right here,” Buffington said.
With more than 35 years of operational and administrative experience, Kirkwood has managed individuals and divisions in a competitive, regulated marketplace, the chamber said in the press release.
She has also been a member of many community organization boards, including the chamber, Cayuga County Community College Foundation, Auburn Memorial Hospital, YMCA-WEIU, and United Way of Cayuga County.
Kirkwood also serves as a trustee for Auburn United Methodist Church, Musical Theatre Festival/Merry-Go-Round Joint Working Group, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, NASA Regional Application Center Governing Council and Cayuga County Community College.
