HIT: To Cherie Avery, of Auburn, who is shaving her head for a good reason. Avery is participating in the St. Baldrick's fundraiser which collects money for childhood cancer research.
Thousands of people all over the world take pledges and shave their heads with the bald heads showing solidarity with the children who are affected by the disease.
The campaign, which started in 2000, is held on St. Patrick's Day. It has raised more than $50 million.
MISS: To the burglary of a church rectory in Jordan earlier this week. Less than $1,000 in receipts for Mass cards was taken from St. Patrick's Church, according to the state police.
We can't imagine what would motivate someone to steal from a church, but we hope they get a chance to explain themselves to the police.
Police said they have no suspects but hope that someone with information will call them at 698-3353.
HIT: To the celebration of Harriet Tubman Day at her home in Auburn on Tuesday. The special day recognizes the anniversary of the heroine's passing in 1913.
The day is used to teach students more about Tubman and her numerous contributions to American history. Coming at a time when the Tubman home is in the process of possibly becoming a National Historical Park and part of the U.S. Park Service, it's a reminder of the history we are lucky to have here.
HIT: To the “Our Idol Show,” which has been holding tryouts this week. Children get a chance to participate in an “American Idol” type talent contest, showing off their dancing and singing skills.
The performances, which will be held in May, will benefit the Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. So there's an even better reason to support the show.
