The Genoa man who had to be arraigned Monday in the back of a U-Haul cargo truck because of his obesity has posted bail in his case, meaning he won't have to report to jail while his case proceeds through the judicial system.
Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould said Stephen Turo, 56, of 1138 Maple St., posted $1,000 cash bail shortly after the arriagnment, at which he pleaded not guilty to 17 felony drug charges.
Last Thursday, Turo's attorney said his client was confined to his home because of his obesity, which is why he could not make it into the courtroom at the time. Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone said he would not travel to Genoa to arraign Turo, but that he would be willing to meet Turo in the parking lot when he arrived at the courthouse.
That's precisely what happened Monday.
Turo has waived his right to appear at any further court proceedings unless he pleads guilty or goes to trial, Valdina said.
