The Double Barrel Blues Band packs exactly the kind of firepower onstage that its name suggests.
“We have two guitars going, so we play with attitude and lots of energy,” said guitarist Mark Cloutier.
Cloutier and fellow guitarist and singer John Hart, bassist Bill Satterly and drummer Garnett Grimm tear through a catalogue of original blues music from its 2008 album, “Bad Bad Feeling.” They mix their own songs with classic blues by artists like Sonny Boy Williamson and rock tunes by the Rolling Stones or Jimi Hendrix.
“We do a good enough blend that someone can recognize a tune and then when we do our own song, people won't know the difference,” Cloutier said.
The band, which splits vocal duties depending on the track, formed about three years ago. It recently mailed its first CDs to blues radio stations in Spain, Norway and France, where Cloutier hopes they could tour should they build a following overseas.
For now, the Double Barrel Blues Band covers a wide swath of central and upstate New York. The Syracuse-based Cloutier handles bookings in that area, while the other members' home towns of Boonville and Carthage expand their touring circuit.
Even before older crowds at Lake George, Cloutier has witnessed the Double Barrel Blues Band move packed crowds with its mix of slower blues and more swinging selections.
“We go for a blues atmosphere, but not just people sitting on bar stools staring at you,” Cloutier said. “It's all about attitude for us.”
