An Auburn man was killed in a snowmobile accident Saturday in Lewis County.
State Police in Lowville said that John P. Tracy, 19, of 6430 Townhall Road, Auburn, was traveling in a line with a group of friends when he lost control at a stop sign and was ejected from the machine as it rolled over.

Police said the accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Flat Rock Road and Pitcher Road in the Town of Montague.

Police said that efforts to resuscitate Tracy at the scene were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead after being transported to Lewis County General Hospital.

The accident was investigated by Lowville-based State Police.

Police said they were assisted at the scene by members of Lewis County Search and Rescue, Lewis County Sheriff's Department and New York State Forest Rangers.

" How sad... my thoughts and prayers are with the Tracy family. Though I did not know John Tracy myself, I saw him graduate and heard the response from his peers when he walked to the stage to claim his diploma. You could feel how much he was loved by those who knew him. "

" Overwhelming. Please, please let this remind us how fragile life is. These "recreational" vehicles today travel much faster than angels can fly. It feels like the breath has left me after finding this out. What a great guy that was mature beyond his years. He was needed elsewhere, though. Ryan, be strong. My heart goes out to all involved. "

" John Tracy was an exceptional young man. He possessed so many wonderful qualities that eveyone wanted to call him son, family, friend. His death has left a void that will never be filled. We send our love and prayers to his family and loved ones. Sincerely, The Jeanne Titcomb (Hukee) Family "
