AUBURN - A Cayuga County Judge said on Thursday that a local man must appear in court next week to be arraigned on felony drug charges despite the fact that his obesity severely impairs his mobility.
Judge Thomas Leone said he is be willing to meet Stephen Turo, 56, of 1138 Maple St., Genoa, in the court parking lot in order to read the sealed indictment to him.
Turo's wife, Claudette Turo, 54, who pleaded not guilty Thursday to 15 felony and two misdemeanor drug charges, said she will have to arrange special transportation for her husband because he cannot use a car.
Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said hundreds of Oxycontin, hydrocodone and morphine pills were seized when the Turo's house was raided. A scale, marijuana and more than $2,000 in cash was also seized in the raid, Budelmann said.
Claudette Turo is charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, five counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, four counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and a count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, all felonies. She is also charged with two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
Bail for Claudette Turo was set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.
