The volleyball season ended for both Weedsport and Cato-Meridian with first-round sectional losses Tuesday.
In the Section III Class C-2 playoffs, it was a 3-0 shutout as eighth-seeded Onondaga defeated No. 9 Weedsport 30-28, 25-13, 25-22
Pacing Weedsport (6-14) were Nicole Huttar with six kills, one ace and three blocks, Lauryn Bates posted four kills and seven assists, Julia Myers tallied four aces, three kills, four assists and three digs, and Heather Edmunds finished with four digs.
“It was a rebuilding year,” Warriors coach Sandy Donahue said. “We are looking forward to next year and being more competitive in the league. It was really just a lot of inexperience, of playing together, and we are only graduating three seniors, so next season we should come out much stronger.”
In the Section III, Class C-1 playoffs, the ninth-seeded Blue Devils were shut out 3-0 by No. 8 Sauquoit Valley, 25-16, 25-15, 25-8.
“The girls just didn't play their best,” Blue Devils Kristin Shanahan said. “They didn't bring it.”
Pacing the Blue Devils were Alexis Haskins (three aces and one dig), Megan O'Keefe (three aces and one kill) and Becca Teska (one kill and three digs).
Cato-Meridian ends its season 8-13.
“Overall, the girls tried hard,” Shanahan said. “They came really far but just couldn't take it all the way.”
