State police in Aurelius are investigating the theft of more than $3,000 in jewelry and other items from an Owasco home on Monday, troopers said.
Troopers believe the burglars knew what they were looking for when they broke into the Town Hall Road home and took cameras, camcorders, hunting knives and other items, in addition to the jewelry.
The burglars also attempted to break into a gun safe but were unable to crack the lock, troopers said.
Because the burglars stole unique jewelry, troopers said they hope residents may have seen it.
Items stolen included a man's gold onyx opal ring, a man's 1-carat diamond ring, a class of 1961 Weedsport High School ring and a 1966 class ring for the Albany College of Pharmacy.
Troopers ask anyone with information regarding the burglary to call them at 253-3103.
