HIT: To the dinner theater fundraiser held Friday night to raise money for the Child Advocacy Center of Cayuga County.
The center is place to help child sex abuse and assault victims with treatment and streamlined information gathering from law enforcement authorities.
The Auburn Rotary Club, with sponsorship from First Niagara Bank, organized this benefit, which was held at the Springside Inn.
Kudos to all involved in coming together for such a great cause.
HIT: To the break from the extreme winter weather.
Most of us were wondering if we'd ever get that typical small warm-up that seems to come each year. It's just nice to have a few days of sunshine and above-freezing temperatures in the middle of January or February that give just enough respite so we can endure the remaining weeks of winter.
MISS: To the slump that the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team finds itself trying to halt.
After such a strong start to the season - a start that had the team ranked in the top 10 nationally - the Orange find themselves having lost four of the last five games, with the next game scheduled against the No. 1 Connecticut Huskies.
Syracuse is still in a solid position to make the tournament, but with the potential we've seen from this team, just qualifying should not be the ultimate goal.
MISS: To the lack of interested horn players so far in the effort to revive Auburn's Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps.
The group has seen a strong response from interested percussionists, but the recruitment of brass instrumentalists has not been easy.
We hope it's just a matter of word needing to get out, rather than a sign of the times. No matter what their ranks end up looking like, though, it's great to see the Lancers taking shape once again, and we look forward to their performances in the future.
