BUFFALO - A Canadian trucker faces charges after border agents seized $1 million worth of the club drug Ecstasy from the cab of his tractor-trailer.
Customs and Border Protection officials said Wednesday that 41-year-old Leon Johnson of Brampton, Ontario was arrested while bringing a load of blueberries into the United States at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo last Friday. Agents say they found 48,400 tablets of Ecstasy in 10 vacuum-sealed bags behind a light fixture and the roof liner of the truck's cab.
Johnson faces federal charges of importation and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
The public defender assigned to his case did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
