A local family is establishing a scholarship for students graduating from the Weedsport Central School District pursuing the new degree program in entrepreneurship at Cayuga Community College.
In memory of their mother, the late Julie Briggs, the Soules family - Daniel Soules, Dr. Kathy Marjinsky, William Soules and James Soules - are gifting CCC $25,000 plus yearly interest to fund an entrepreneurial scholarship for which Weedsport High School students are eligible.
If no student fits that criteria, the scholarship can then be awarded to a CCC-bound student pursuing a business-related degree.
The scholarship will be in Briggs' name as a means to honor her life and the many people she inspired, according to a news release.
“The family is aware that many worthy scholarships have been set up for unique and worthy causes,” said Daniel Soules in the release. “From Julie's children, they feel everything regular about their mother, grandmother, devoted wife, and great friend to many should live on. A humble woman, who asked for so little and gave so much.”
