Skaneateles edges Jordan-Elbridge on mats

The Skaneateles wrestling team won eight weight classes to edge Jordan-Elbridge 45-30 on Tuesday.
In the 119-pound weight class, Kevin Pembridge pinned Preston Bishop in 5:01 to give the Lakers their first win of the night. Also coming out victorious for Skaneateles were Jacob Valentino (130), who earned an 8-2 decision over Mitch Cooper; Chad Gray (140) in a 3:42 pin over Jesse Dexter; Jacob Carvalho (145) in a 1:22 pin over Alex Uranker and Chris Wise (189) pinned Gage Thorpe in 1:01.

Kyle Sears (152), Jimmy Carro (160) and Ryan Kawyrga (171) each earned a win via forfeit.

For the Eagles, Mike Nguyen (112) pinned Tyler Saunders in 3:18, Joe Mills (125) pinned Owen Sheppard and Eric Gross (135) pinned Eric Murray in 2:44. Colin Ennulate (103) and Brian Murray (285) each won by forfeit.

The Lakers (2-2) host a tournament on Saturday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Auburn 58, Baldwinsville 49

Julaun Richardson led the Maroons with 14 points, while Malcolm Bryant chipped in with 13.

Kenny Byrd and Sam Wilson each finished with 10. Byrd had six assists and Wilson had a team high eight rebounds as the Maroons swept the Bees on the season.

“We didn't play our best game tonight,” Maroons coach Al. Giannone said. “We pulled it out at the end, though.”

Auburn (7-3) hosts Henninger, Friday.

Spencer-Van Etten 44, Moravia 36

Pat Mott led the Blue Devils offense with 17 points, while Jeremy Stewart finished with 13 and a team leading nine rebounds.

Moravia (7-4) travels to Trumansburg, Friday.

Tioga 50, Southern Cayuga 36

Sean Driscoll led the Chiefs with nine points, while Bryan VanNostrand chipped in with eight.

Southern Cayuga (2-9) travels to Candor, Friday.

Lansing 39, Union Springs 35

Michael Bean scored 11 points and racked up nine rebounds to lead the Wolves.

Jim Burns had nine points and four rebounds, Ryan Fronce scored six points and Nate Markham had three points and six points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cato-Meridan 38, Fabius Pompey 31

Michelle Townsend led the Blue Devils with 19 points, while Meghan Meeks scored seven points and Sabrina O'Brien had four.

The Blue Devils (2-9) host Bishop Grimes on Thursday.

Moravia 39, Spencer-Van Etten 30

Deanna Drake scored 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Maria Heffernan had 10 points.

Claire Hunsinger tallied eight points, seven rebounds, two steals and five assists, Hannah Mackey had seven points and five steals, while Haley Potter recorded five steals.

The Blue Devils (5-5) host Trumansburg on Friday.

Marcellus 46, Skaneateles 18

Jordan Dudden led the Lakers with five points, while Ashley Sheldon had four and Holly Ross had three points, four steals and seven rebounds.

Skaneateles (1-8) is at Westhill on Thursday.

Onondaga 44, Port Byron 41

Nica Dare had 15 points and five steals, while Shelby Gilbert finished with seven points, five steals and five assists.

Alison Short had seven points and 10 rebounds, while Kaitlynne Knapp also had 10 rebounds on top of six assists.

The Panthers (6-6) head to Tully on Thursday.

BOYS HOCKEY

West Genesee 7, Auburn 2

Reggie Townsend and Matt Festa each scored a goal and Brandyn Morgan tallied an assist.

Steve Komanecky had 34 saves.

The Maroons (2-13) heads to Fayetteville-Manlius on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Port Byron 3, Bishop Grimes 0

Kara Pitcher led the Panthers with eight kills, one block, seven digs and two assists.

Brooke Ham recorded four aces, two kills, five digs and four assists in the 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 win, Britt Timms scored four digs, Julie Sroka had two aces, Jennifer Biszallion had one ace, one kill and one digs, Paula Bernardoni recorded four aces, one kill and five digs, and Kelsey Pitcher had four aces, two digs and seven assists.

The Panthers (6-5 overall) head to Cato-Meridian on Thursday.

Marcellus 3, Jordan-Elbridge 0

Lisa Kimak finished with three blocks and an ace as the Eagles lost 25-17, 25-14 and 25-11 on Monday. Alicia Norfolk had a team high 11 digs, while Alicia Andrianos had two blocks and two assists.

Jordan-Elbridge travels to Solvay, today.

SWIMMING

Mexico 109, Weedsport 73

Nathan Earl earned the Weedsport MVP at the Kenvyn Richards meet in Mexico. Earl came in second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.06) and second in the 100 freestyle (53.36).

Mike Reese finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:39.31), Sean Wignall was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.68) and third in the 50 freestyle (24.93), while Matt Crowley was second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.80) and third in the 200 IM (2:23.05).
