Longtime Auburn resident and former city manager Michael Oropallo Jr. passed away Friday.
Oropallo, who was 75, lived in Florida, but had served as an educator, coach, civil servant and community pillar in Auburn for many years. He worked as the city's director of parks and recreation starting in 1971, and helped develop the Casey Park skating rink and recreation complex.
Oropallo also worked as the city's interim city manager before retiring in 1993. He had also served as the Auburn Little League commissioner and president of the Auburn Hockey Club.
