Lakers fall in overtime

Dylan VanHoltz recorded a hat trick in the consolation round of the Duke Schneider Memorial Tournament, but the Skaneateles boys hockey team lost 4-3 in overtime to Canandaigua, Saturday.
Ryan Callahan, Zach Augustine and Seth Weiss each had an assist.

VanHoltz was rewarded with a selection to the all-tournament team for the Lakers.

Josh Lotkowictz had nine saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 3,

Weedsport 0

Julia Myers paced the Warriors with two aces, two kills and seven assists as they fell 25-14, 25-23 and 25-22.

Nicole Huttar had an ace, a block and eight kills, while Samantha Beckwith had three digs, three kills and an assist. Lauryn Bates rounded out the Warriors' scoring with two aces, a team-high eight assists and a kill.

Weedsport (3-7 overall, 3-6 league) hosts Bishop Ludden, Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weedsport 57, Fabius Pompey 27

Kaitlin Hammersley led the Warriors offense with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. She also made three 3-pointers, while Brittany LaForce had two.

“That opened up Margaret Roberts in the inside,” Warriors coach Chris Vargason said.

Roberts finished with 16 points for the second straight game and 11 rebounds.

“Maybe she's starting to break out,” Vargason said. “The defense played very well today. I was impressed with them. We had good looks offensively and our inside and outside game was there.”

Weedsport (9-3, 7-1) hosts the only team that has defeated them in league play so far in Bishop Grimes, Tuesday.

Southern Cayuga 52, Groton 28

“It was a good game and everyone on our team scored,” Chiefs coach Ed Heslop said of Friday's contest. “We had good ball movement.”

Southern Cayuga (5-4, 3-1 Division IAC) travels to Tioga, Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LaFayette 57, Cato-Meridian 53

Joe Soccio led the Blue Devils with 15 points as they lost their third straight game on Friday.

Preston Dennison finished with 11 points, while Dillon Caswell had 10.

Cato-Meridian (7-3) travels to Jordan-Elbridge on Tuesday.

SWIMMING

Jamesville-Dewitt 95, Weedsport 83

Josh Bilger led the Warriors with a first place finish in diving (175.75), while Sean Wignall also came in first in the 100 freestyle (54.30) on Friday.

Mike Reese, Adam Rude, Samantha Black and Nathan Earl also won the 400 free relay (3:57.44).

Reese took second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.25), while Earl earned second in the 200 IM (2:14.63) and 100 backstroke (59.86).

Matt Crowley placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.99) and Logan Thompson came in second in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.49).
