A 12-year-old girl from Auburn was still unconscious and listed in critical condition at University Hospital a day after she slid head first into a parked car while sledding with a friend in Syracuse on Saturday, authorities said.

Sgt. Tom Connellan, of the Syracuse Police Department, said that Taylor Denson, of North Fulton Street, was using a snow-tube to go sledding at the Westcott Reservoir when she slid head first into a Hyundai Sonata at the bottom of the hill at 3:30 p.m. Denson was knocked unconscious and suffered severe head trauma as a result of the accident.

Because the reservoir's steep hill runs into South Orchard Road, Connellan said several no sledding signs have been posted to discourage families from using the area as a sledding site. On the day of the accident, several other people were also sledding on the hill.

"It's a very steep hill and there have been several accidents on it in the past," Connellan said. "There have been no sledding signs posted there for years to try and discourage people from using the hill."

Connellan said the children were under the supervision of an adult at the time of the accident.
