SYRACUSE — Police charged a 16-year-old Syracuse teen Monday with the fatal shooting of an employee of the city’s Department of Public Works.
Police said 47-year-old Casimir Snyder was heading out to pick up his wife from work Sunday afternoon when he was shot outside his home.
He ran back inside his house and told his four children to call for help.
Snyder was pronounced dead at a Syracuse hospital about an hour later.
Police Chief Gary Miguel said Ja-Le Johnson was arrested Monday on charges of second-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm.
Police said the teen apparently fired the fatal shot from an attic window across the street.
Police said they recovered a .22-caliber shell casing on the floor of the attic, where they also found two sawed-off .22-caliber long guns and more ammunition.
Police did not comment on a possible motive for the shooting, but said it didn’t appear to be related to drugs or gang activity.
Johnson was being held in the justice center jail until he can be arraigned.
He did not yet have a lawyer, police said.
