The Eagles couldn't pick up their second win of the season, losing 66-47 to Fabius Pompey Monday.
“They all took turns missing chippies,” Eagles coach Tom Wilmot said. “They looked tired tonight out there, they just didn't play well defensively.”
Jordan-Elbridge trailed the entire game but chipped the deficit to three points in the second quarter before trailing 30-20 at the half.
“They had a lot of guys out there who just took the ball and put it in the basket and we had no one to stop them,” Wilmot said. “They were just beating us off the dribble.”
It didn't help that the Eagles had two of their top scorers in foul trouble - Tom Graf and Mitch Merrill. Graf, the team's leading scorer, was held scoreless in the first half.
“It really hurt us to lose that scoring in the first half,” Wilmot said. “Everyone did some good things but it just wasn't enough.”
Graf went on to lead J-E with 13 points, Teddy Hart and Christian Berwind both posted eight points and Mitch Merrill managed three points and four steals.
“(Merrill) played really hard out there tonight,” Wilmot said. “He just couldn't put the ball in the basket and that happens sometimes. He just couldn't get a shot in. I try to tell them that sometimes your shooting might be off but you can't lose control of your hustle.”
The Eagles have two straight home games to try to pick momentum. Their concentration in practice will be focused on renewing some of the earlier-season energy.
“We need to bring a little intensity back to practice,” Wilmot said. “Actually, a lot of intensity. We started the season with it but as the losses started to add up it seems that they have lost that intensity and confidence.”
Jordan-Elbridge (1-7) hosts Tyburn Academy Wednesday and Cazenovia Friday.
