The Auburn boys swim team met with Weedsport on the cusp of the new year on Wednesday morning, and wound up with one more win in 2008.
The Maroons took first place in seven of the 11 events and though the Warriors gave them some of the best competition they've seen all year, Auburn emerged with the 91-77 win at the Auburn YMCA-WEIU.
Senior Pat O'Donovan and Lucas Zelehowsky once again paved the way for the Maroons' win, winning four events each. O'Donovan, John Tehan, Zelehowsky and Connor Kilmer won the 200 medley relay (1:46.99), as Weedsport's Nathan Earl, Sean Wignall, Matt Crowley and Adam Rude touch in second (1:53.34).
O'Donovan crusied to the win in the 200 IM (2:04.86), in front of Tehan in second (2:22.76), and the 100 freestyle (49.42). in front of Kilmer (54.41). O'Donovan, along with Zelehowsky also swam a leg in the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:39.64), with Sawran and Brian Roe.
Coming in second in the event was Weedsport's Rude, Jake McDeid, Logan Thompson and Mike Reese (1:49.63).
Zelehowsky, a junior, won the 50 freestyle (23.37), ahead of Weedsport's Rude (26.67).
The Maroons' speedy swimmer also came in first in the 100 backstroke (58.10), as his teammate Kilmer took second (1:05.91) and Crowley came in third for the Warriors (1:07.78).
Also winning for the Maroons was Sawran in the 200 freestyle (1:57.46).
Auburn raced the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, in exhibition, as Weedsport's Earl, Wignall, Reese and Crowley came in first (3:48.13), less than a second in front of Auburn's Roe, Gary Leader, Sawran and Kilmer (3:48.82).
Taking a first-place finish for the Warriors were Crowley in the 100 butterfly (59.80) and Earl in the 500 freestyle (5:19.29), ahead of his teammate Reese (5:41.57), who placed second.
Sawran came in a close second in the 100 butterfly (1:01.50).
In the 100 breaststroke, Wignall won with a time of 1:12.44, touching ahead of Tehan (1:13.55).
Auburn (4-0) hosts Cicero-North Syracuse on Jan. 9.
