BUFFALO — An upstate New York college student who discarded her newborn in a trash tote has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Prosecution and defense lawyers said Monday that Alicia Zebrun of Lackawanna was told she faces a prison term of at least one to three years when she is sentenced in April.
The 19-year-old Erie Community College student has been jailed since her Sept. 22 arrest and will remain in custody until her sentencing in Erie County Court.
Zebrun’s newborn daughter was found in a shoe box in a garbage tote in Buffalo Sept. 19 by a person looking for returnable cans.
Zebrun’s attorney, Robert Convissar, has said Zebrun was surprised by the birth in her family’s home Sept. 18 and believed the infant was stillborn.
