Christmas is a couple of days away, Hanukkah has officially started and Kwanzaa gets going at the end of the week. So today's column is a good time for a round-up of some holiday-related information for readers:
#&149; To prevent subscribers from digging in the snow because they think their paper must be buried in there, let me remind everyone that on Thursday, we will not be publishing a print edition of The Citizen. Christmas is the one day of the year when we don't put out our daily paper product.
If news does break on Wednesday or Thursday, we'll be sure to quickly get reports up to our Web site, auburnpub.com, and Friday's print edition will get readers who aren't interested in jumping onto their computer everything they need to know to catch up.
#&149; Because we won't have a Thursday edition this week, we're moving publication of the “Go” weekend entertainment guide up a day.
“Go” will appear in Wednesday's paper packed with plenty of information about activities families can do together over the holiday vacation period. We will also have an abbreviated Lake Life section that day with the food theme that Wednesday readers have come to expect, including a feature from our resident video game expert, David Wilcox, on a new cooking video game. What's next, a game for folding laundry or taking out the garbage?
#&149; Sunday readers of our Lake Life section have been enjoying our serial holiday story written by local writer Bob Comenole. This year's story, “By the River Christmas” is being presented in weekly installments. We've now published four chapters, with the final one to come Sunday.
This is the second year Bob has put a story like this together for our readers, and the feedback has been tremendous. If you've missed the serial, though, don't worry. You can go online to auburnpub.com/christmas_story and catch up on all the chapters. If you get some extra time and want to relax with some enjoyable reading in the next few days, I highly recommend checking it out.
#&149; The holidays also means the end of the year, and that means we're putting together our annual Year in Review edition for this Sunday. This year we've added a cool twist.
Once again, we'll give you our list of the top 10 stories of the year in terms of community impact, and we invite you to debate the selections. But new this year will be a special section of images from the past year taken by our talented team of photojournalists. From big fires to big games, they've put together a compelling selection of photographs.
That's it for now. From all of us here, happy holidays!
