I'm glad an honest person found my checkbook

Sunday, December 21, 2008 11:22 PM EST

I would like to take a moment to thank a person whom I didn't have the opportunity to meet or to thank. I only wish I could thank you in person and I can only hope you see this and realize how thankful I am.
Yes, Virginia, there is still a Good Samaritan in Auburn. On Dec. 16, I was on a trip to the DMV and another errand. As I was leaving the DMV at 3:10 p.m., I jumped into my truck, when I reached my next destination, I realized I no longer had my checkbook in my pocket.

All sorts of things are running through my mind, calling the bank, closing my checking account and opening a new account.

At this point, I know I have to at least drive back to the DMV. So off I set on a wing and a prayer.

As I pull up to the DMV, I realized a lady we had parked next to previously was still there.

She informs me a gentleman in a “Cowboys” jacket had picked up my checkbook and took it into the County Office Building. He then gives it to Deputy West.

As I was driving back to the DMV Deputy West is calling my house at 3:14 p.m. Within a matter of minutes my prayers are answered.

So “thank you” Cowboy and Deputy West for making a bad situation into a good one and restoring my faith in mankind. I only hope someday I, too, can pass on your random act of kindness.

Thanks again.
