The northern end of Cayuga County is under a lake effect snow warning through 7 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service announced.
The agency said snowfall rates in the area could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour, with total accumulations ranging from 4 to 8 inches of new snow.
The bigger problem, though, will be heavy winds and blowing snow. The agency said frequent whiteout and blizzard conditions are possible for brief periods of time. Wind speeds are predicted between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts to 40 mph.
