Donations during the Christmas season are not just in the forms of money and canned goods.
Community members donated so much blood to the Cayuga County Chapter of the Red Cross on Thursday that it set a record. The Red Cross collected 135 units of blood within six hours of the blood drive at the First United Methodist Church, according to a news release.

“My thanks to the dedicated blood services staff, willing volunteers from the church and chapter and, most importantly, the many patient donors,” Blood Drive Chair Jack Miller said in the release. “After 9/11, we collected 126 units at my drive and we thought that was good; Dec. 18 was the best monthly drive ever for us.”

And the blood drive is not yet completed. The Red Cross is sponsoring a drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the YMCA-WEIU, William Street, Auburn; from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the Cato-Meridian Recreation Center, Route 370, Meridian; and from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Union Springs Fire Department, hosted by the Frontenac Historical Society and Museum, 257 Cayuga St., Union Springs.

To register, contact the Red Cross at 252-9596 or chapter@ccredcross.org.
