City to bill subdivision for water

SENNETT - The East Side Heights subdivision in the town of Sennett is back on track for development.
The Sennett Town Board agreed Tuesday night to have Town Supervisor David Sikora sign a water agreement with Auburn allowing the city to provide and bill for water and sewer services to PMV Vitale Realty Partnership's 5.33 acres, located partially within the city limits and partially in the town of Sennett.

The proposed development is located in Sennett's newly formed Water District No. 6, and all agreed that people who settle in the development must be advised that their water meters would be read and billed individually by the city, but they would also have to pay for operation and maintenance costs as well as capital debt for water that they don't get, which is provided to other residents in Water District No. 6. This will be administered in taxes levied by the town.

The town of Sennett is not involved in any way for the billing of water/sewer services. Water/sewer lines from the city to properties within Water District No. 6 will be taxed in the same manner as any other properties for maintenance and operation.

The owners and developer will get permits and documents together.

Last year owner Ben Vitale wanted to start selling the dozen plots on the city side as part of the East Side Heights Community off Franklin Street near Prospect Street.

At that point, town board members did not consent to allow the plots, which lay in the town's water district, to tie into the city's water system. Taking them out of the town's water district would have created a greater financial burden for others sharing that district.

The town board insisted Tuesday night that the disclosure of two bills, one from the city and one from the town of Sennett, be put in writing in the contract with the city. In the meantime, the board agreed to sign the contract before them in order to expedite the project, which will next go to the planning board with a stamped drawing of the project.

Another, more comprehensive document, including the information that the board requested, will be presented by Jan. 31, according to Vitale's attorney, Norman Chirco.
