Cayuga County officials issued a travel advisory for all area roads Friday afternoon and announced that the county office building would be closing at 3 p.m.
According to a news release from the sheriff's office, all roads in the county remained open as of 1:30 p.m. but that snow was falling at the rate of an inch or more per hour and winds were expected to increase later in the day.
A travel advisory means that all motorists are encouraged to use caution and reduce speeds on all county roads.
Anywhere from 10 to 12 inches of snow is expected before the storm subsides.
The sheriff's office said that all village town, county and state highways departments are working to keep the roads clear.
An updated road condition is expected to be released later in the day Friday.
