Stewart powers Blue Devils

Jeremy Stewart earned a double-double for the Moravia boys basketball team (3-1), ripping off 20 points and coming down with 10 rebounds in the Blue Devils' 80-64 win over Southern Cayuga Tuesday. Pat Mott tallied 16 points, while TJ Powers came away with 14. Greg Pasho also contributed 12 points.
For the Chiefs, Anthony Espinosa led with 19 points, while Bryan VanNostrand and Dylan Parmenter each scored 12 points.

Southern Cayuga (1-3) heads to Marathon Friday.

Auburn 65, Cicero-North Syracuse 50

In their first win of the season, the Maroons jumped out to a 27-8 lead and didn't allow the Northstars to come closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Malcolm Bryant led with 15 points, while Julaun Richardson had 14. LeRon Agee tallied 11 points and Sam Wilson had nine points.

Kenny Byrd played great on the floor, scoring six points and recording seven assists.

“He really got us into things tonight,” Auburn coach Al Giannone said. “Team-wise though, we did a great job defensively.”

Auburn (1-3) hosts Central Square on Friday.

Marathon 44, Union Springs 35

Jason Schenck led the Wolves with 10 points, while Jim Burns recorded nine points and Michael Bean had seven points and 11 rebounds.

The Wolves (2-2) are at Groton on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weedsport 42, Onondaga 38

The Warriors traveled to play their previously undefeated rivals with six players - one with an illness - and handed the Tigers their first loss of the season.

Kaitlin Hammersley led Weedsport with 14 points and came down with 12 rebounds, while Tonya Hinman had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Brittany LaForce scored nine and Margaret Roberts came away with six points.

“We played a great defensive game,” Weedsport coach Chris Vargason said.

The Warriors (5-2) host Tully on Thursday.

Port Byron 49, Fabius Pompey 38

Kaitlynne Knapp tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers, while Corey Ryan scored nine points and added 10 rebounds. Alison Short had eight points, while Shelby Gilbert delivered five points, eight assists and had six steals.

Port Byron (3-2) hosts Bishop Grimes Thursday.

Homer 48, Skaneateles 29

The Lakers won their first quarter of the season, edging the Trojans 12-11 in the fourth. The young squad was led by Jackie Leslie, who tallied 10 points. Point guard Emily Call had eight points, five steals and four assists.

“That's the best game she's played for us,” Skaneateles coach Bob Braunitzer said of Call. “She did a great job as a floor general tonight.”

The Lakers (0-4) host Hannibal on Friday.

VOLLEYBALL

Cato-Meridian 3, Bishop Ludden 0

Alexis Haskins put up two aces and two kills for the Blue Devils in the 25-7, 25-22, 25-5 win, while Shelby Klaben had one ace and four assists, and Megan O'Keefe recorded three aces, three kills and one block.

Amy Thomas and Arielle Williams each delivered three aces.

The Blue Devils (2-3) host Living Word Academy Saturday.

Bishop Grimes 3, Weedsport 2

Nicole Huttar had eight kills in the 25-9, 20-25, 16-25, 25-16, 24-26 loss for the Warriors. Lauryn Bates earned five aces, one kill and 13 assists, Jena Hollfelder had two aces and nine kills, while Julia Myers recorded two aces, 11 kills and seven assists.

The Warriors (1-4) travel to LaFayette Thursday.

Pulaski 3, Port Byron 0

Kara Pitcher recorded four aces, five kills, one block and six digs in the 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 loss.

Brooke Ham had eight aces, one kill, seven digs and one assist, Britt Timms had five digs, Julie Sroka tallied one ace and one kill, Jennifer Bisallion had two aces, Paula Bernadoni recorded two aces, one kill, eight digs and two assists, and Kelsie Bennett earned three aces, three kills, two digs and three assists. Maggie O'Brien earned a dig, Courtney Bachman had one assist, and Kelsey Pitcher had one dig and one assist.

BOYS BOWLING

Auburn 4, Henninger 1

The Maroons ran their home record to 3-0, led by Nick Kazinivsky with a 674 and a near-perfect game of 290. Eddie Gleason rolled a 632, Cory Flett scored a 625, Steve Titus had a 596 and Jesse Law rolled a 592.

GIRLS BOWLING

Auburn 5, Henninger 0

The Maroons remain undefeated, led by Sarah Wild, who rolled a season-high 538. Ashley Tuttle had a 507 and Stef Spinney rolled a 500.

SWIMMING

Watkins Glen 81, Southern Cayuga 70

Allen Wikstrom finished first in the 200 IM (2:44.26), as every Chiefs swimmer earned a personal best time in their respective event in the meet.

Jimmy Weber won the 100 freestyle (57.70), while Thomas Fessenden won the 500 freestyle (6:09.99) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.22).

In the 400 freestyle relay, Gavin Ludemann, Luke Cook, Fessenden and Weber came in first (4:24.56), while Nate Bareham, Sam Ayers, Phil Littlejohn and Wikstrom took second (5:06.36).

The Chiefs (0-4) head to Odessa-Montour Monday.
