The National Weather Service has now extended its winter storm warning to all of
Cayuga County and most of upstate New York. It will be in effect from 7 a.m. Friday through midnight.
For the warning area, the NWS said the storm will reach the area between daybreak and 9 a.m. Friday. Snowfall rates during the day will be 1 to 2 inches per hour. This, combined with 15 to 25 mph winds, will create dangerous driving conditions.
Total accumulations in the warning area are forecasted from 5 to 10 inches in the southern half of the county and 6 to 9 inches in the northern half.
A winter storm warning is issued when severe winter weather is expected. A winter storm watch, which had been in effect earlier today, is issued when conditions are possible but not certain.
