The Auburn Stingrays swim team had a convincing home win against the Fulton Speed Demons on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Stingrays remain undefeated on the season at 4-0.
Alexis Rejman, Sydney Marinka, Claire Rejman and Emma Soloman started the day off in the Auburn Girls 8-and-under age group with a win in the 100 medley relay. Ashleigh Hinman placed first in the 100 freestyle, while Claire Rejman finished first in the 100 IM. Marinka reached the wall first in the 25 freestyle. Claire Rejman recorded her second first-place finish in an individual event in the 25 butterfly. Jenessa Brandsetter placed first in the 50 freestyle and Angotti finished first in the 25 breaststroke. Hinman sealed the win with a first-place finish in the 25 backstroke.
The Stingray boys 8-and-under team had a solid win against the Speed Demons as Macauley Kolonko finished first in the 100 freestyle. Matthias Ballard and Joshua Whiting both recorded first-place finishes - Ballard in the 100 individual medley and Whiting in the 25 butterfly. Sam Carbonaro won the 50 freestyle. Derek Rowland placed first in the 25 backstroke and Joshua Whiting recorded his second win of the day in the 25 breaststroke. Andrew Giannettino, Angotti, Rowland and David Hryrnt won the 100 freestyle relay with a time of 2:16.63.
Auburn's 9- and 10-year-old girls swam past Fulton with a win in all but two events. Hannah Foster, Cassie Brown, Aubrey Connors, and Madison Bachman won the 200 medley relay. Yasmine Smith placed first in the 200 freestyle. Julia Angotti finished first in the 50 freestyle. Aubrey Connors won the 50 butterfly. Cassie Brown placed first in the 50 backstroke and Angotti finished first in the 50 breaststroke. Brown, Angotti, Connors and Smith wrapped things up with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
Sam Hansel, Tyler Mason, Jacob Whiting and Nick Gavras started the 9- and 10-year-old boys team off with a win against the Speed Demons in the 200 medley relay. Mason had a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, and Whiting finished first in the 100 individual medley. Lupo won the 50 butterfly. Whiting, like his brother, landed another win for the day in the 100 freestyle, while Hansel finished first in the 50 backstroke. Mason, Gavras, Lupo and Hansel secured the win in the 200 freestyle relay.
In a close match, the Auburn girls 11- and 12-year-old team edged Fulton for the win. Jenna Page placed first in the 200 freestyle. Page placed first in the 50 freestyle. Brigid Cotter won the 50 breaststroke.
Cory Knapp captured two events as the Stingrays toppled the Speed Demons in the boys 11- and 12-year-old meet. Zachary Buchberger finished first in the 200 freestyle and Jacob Harris won the 200 individual medley. Knapp placed first in the 50 freestyle while Nicholas Radell finished first in the 50 butterfly. Knapp's second win came in the 100 freestyle. Radell finished first in the 50 backstroke. Radell, Buchberger, Knapp, and Joshua Herrick had a convincing win in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Stingrays 13- and 14-year-old girls easily handled the Speed Demon as Jessica Wilkes, Amanda Falsey, Emily Rifanburg and Mary Jane Leja placed first in the 200 medley relay. Mackenzie Hauger finished first in the 50 freestyle. Hauger had her second win of the day in the 100 freestyle. Wilkes finished first in the 500 freestyle. The team of Aimee Delfavero, Falsey, Onea Kloster, and Rifanburg also won in the 200 freestyle relay.
Collin Mitchell and Brett Ryan had a hat trick in the Auburn 13- and 14-year-old age group's win over Fulton. Jeremy Sliss started things off with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, followed by Mitchell's first win in the 200 individual medley. Kieran Cotter finished first in the 50 freestyle. Mitchell took first in the 100 butterfly, while Ryan won the 100 freestyle and went back to the starting blocks and finished first in the 500 freestyle. In his third win of the day, Ryan won the 100 backstroke. Mitchell finished his day with a win in the 100 breaststroke. Andrew Bauso, Trevor Denson, Gavras and Sliss finished with a win in the 200 freestyle relay.
Auburn's 15- and 18-year-old girls also beat the Speed Demons. Tiffany Kline, Devon Balk, Tracy Miller and Mallorie Dygert won the 200 medley relay. Alison White finished first in the 200 freestyle. Dygert took first in the 50 freestyle. Ashley King placed first in the 200 individual medley. Kelsey Roe finished first in the 100 butterfly while King won the 100 freestyle. Kline placed first in the 500 freestyle. King took first in the 100 backstroke. In the girls final event, Michelle Delfavero, Liz Keller, Devon Balk, and Rejman won the 400 freestyle relay.
Reid Swartz, Sean Doyle, Justin Sawran and Connor Kilmer secured the first win of the day for the Stingrays 15- and 18-year-old boys team in the 200 medley relay. Sawran finished first in the 200 freestyle and Swartz finished first in the 200 individual medley. Kilmer placed first in the 50 freestyle. Sawran took first in the 100 butterfly while John Tehan won the 500 freestyle. Doyle sealed the win with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
The Stingrays next meet is Dec. 19 in Oswego.
