I hope everyone had a very nice Thanksgiving. I surely enjoyed mine. There is nothing like being around family and friends on holidays.
It's now time to turn our focus on Christmas. I recently had the pleasure of attending our first annual tree lighting ceremony.
About 50 people turned out on a very cold evening to have hot cocoa and cookies as we watched the kids put the finishing touches on the tree.
After the lighting ceremony was over, Tom Kincaid and Rory Townsend led us in Christmas carols. I was asked politely if someone else could lead us next year.
I would like to thank Mark Shafer and the crew at the highway for working so diligently to get our decorations up and Regan Townsend for doing the organizing of the event.
I want to give thanks to a gentleman in town who time and time again comes through for Conquest. He works behind the scenes and no one really knows he is there. I call people like him doers because they get things done for their community without a lot of hoopla, but they are there every single time.
They are constantly giving without asking for anything in return without an agenda, no strings attached.
All communities have doers, and Conquest has been blessed with many. This doer does a lot for his church, the Conquest Fire Company and our community.
Fire Chief Jim Burke knew who to call when he needed help to pull the Conquest Fire Company back together when it was falling apart at the seams.
He called Barry Rubenau, and they got the job done.
I just feel a lot of the times these behind the scenes doers get very little or no credit but they are the ones that make communities go.
Thank you Barry Rubenau for all you do.
On a closing note, I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday.
I would also like to thank The Citizen for giving me the opportunity to write my articles. I am not much of a writer, but I do enjoy writing them.
