Weedsport's Justin Rose drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer with 30 seconds left and the Warriors held on for a 63-62 win over Port Byron in a boys basketball game Wednesday.
The Panthers fought back from a 19-point deficit in the first quarter and trailed by just one at halftime, 32-31.
“It was a back-and-forth battle after that,” Port Byron coach Chris Ford said. “The kids played their hearts out on both sides. The gym was full and it was a really exciting high school game.”
Rose led the Warriors with 17 points, Adam Carey tallied 13 points while Craig Mietz and Sean Ashby both posted 11 points.
Pacing the Panthers were Jake Ross who recorded 14 points, Vince Cyr and Robert Yeomans with 12 points each and DJ Helmer added 10.
“I am very proud of my kids,” Ford said. “They really dug themselves out, it was close but both teams really put in great effort.”
Weedsport travels to play Syracuse Academy of Science Friday.
Cato-Meridian 65, Pulaski 46
Remaining undefeated, A.J. Rothenburg led the Blue Devils with 22 points, Andrew Wegman added 14 points and Preston Dennison earned 12.
Cato-Meridian (4-0) hosts Weedsport Wednesday.

In the 119-pound weight class, Kevin Pembridge won by pin in 1:12.
Jacob Carvalho (140 pounds) won by pin in 1:27, Chris Wise (171) won by pin in 5:59, Jimmy Carro (189) pinned his opponent in 1:27 while Eric Murray (145) and Nathan Hunt (152) each won by forfeit.
The Lakers (2-0) travel to the Portville Tournament Saturday.

Pacing the Wolves in the 215-pound weight class was Tom Weir who, won by pin in 25 seconds. Peter Klock (119) pinned his opponent in 3:48, Rich Thurston (140) won by pin in 51 seconds, Matthew Pinckney (145) pinned his opponent in 2:28, Andy Klock (135) won by a 10-3 decision and Mike Sylvester (189) won by forfeit.
Union Springs (1-1) compete in the Cato-Meridian Duals Saturday.
Liverpool 50, Auburn 16
Luke Netti paced the Maroons in the 119-pound weight class, winning by pin in 4:33.
Auburn's Ken Currier (135) won with a 13-2 decision, Neil Halpin (140) won with a 7-2 decision and Justin Gilmore (171) won with a 9-2 decision.
Tom Campagnola (130) and Matt Tehan (152) both won exhibition matches for the Maroons.

Nicole Huttar led the Warriors in the 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-8 loss. Huttar earned two aces, six kills and two blocks while Lauryn Bates contributed one ace, one kill, six assists and two blocks and Nicole Slauson finished with five aces and two assists.
Weedsport (1-3) host Faith Heritage Saturday.
BOYS HOCKEY
Cazenovia 7, Auburn 4
Auburn's Reggie Townsend scored two goals, Andrew Chadderdon and Brandon Morgan both tallied one goal and one assist, Bobby Gage posted two assists and Matt Festa and Connor Entenmann both had one assist.
Steve Komanecky recorded 34 saves.
Auburn (2-6) hosts Oswego Wednesday.
