A Batavia dairy farmer has been named the new president of the New York Farm Bureau.
The organization announced Thursday that its members have elected Dean Norton, a dairy farmer and agricultural consultant, to replace longtime leader John Lincoln, who officially retired Thursday.
Eric Ooms, a dairy farmer from Kinderhook, was named vice president.
The organization is holding its annual meeting in Albany this week.
Lincoln had served as the bureau's president for the past 14 years.
Norton is also a consultant with Freed Maxick & Battaglia CPAs, and his family runs a custom trucking operation for forage and commodity harvesting. He's been on the organizations' state board of directors since 2004, and he was Genesee County Farm Bureau president from 2000 to 2004.
