A local man was accused by the Auburn Police Department on Wednesday of acting as a pimp for his wife and two other women involved in a local prostitution ring.
Andrew G. Byrne, 25, of 207 Perrine Ave., Auburn, is charged with third-degree promoting prostitution, a felony, for allegedly managing the ring, which authorities believe had been in operation since this summer, police said.
Officers arrested Byrne's wife, Ashley D. Byrne, 22, and Barbara L. Fuller, 31, of 159 Pinnacle Hill Road, Fulton, on Dec. 2 after conducting and undercover investigation at the Days Inn on Williams Street in Auburn and charged them with prostitution and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, police said.
While detectives believe there is a third prostitute involved in the ring, no further arrested are pending at this time, APD Lt. Shawn Butler said.
Andrew and Ashley Byrne were also charged on Dec. 2 with grand larceny after police accused the couple of stealing more than $3,000 from a local convenience store's bank deposit bag on July 6, Butler said.
Ashley Byrne told police at the time that she had been robbed as she took the money to the bank, police said.
Andrew Byrne is also charged with violating the terms of his probation while Ashley is charged with making a false statement, a misdemeanor.
Butler said police executed a search warrant on the couple's house and seized photos and other evidence that allegedly links them to the crimes.
Andrew Byrne is currently being held in the Cayuga County Jail with bail set at $15,000 cash, $30,000 bond; Ashley Byrne is being held on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond; and Fuller has been released on $500 cash bail.
