This is the 187th year of the town of Victory. We've had a great year at our history center and museum.
Some events have included a “senior citizen day” last May to identify townspeople and date some old pictures. We also hosted the May meeting of the Old Brutus Historical Society to allow our neighbors to see our collection. The museum was open after the Memorial Day services so everyone could see our veterans table. In June, we participated in the CIVIC Heritage Historical Society cemetery/house/garden/museum tours. On July 1, we hosted the CIVIC Society picnic on the lawn beside the museum. In August, I set up my computer for a slide show of our town history at the Ag Museum during Town Historian Day. On Oct. 21, we held our second fall open house while the firemen held a chicken barbecue.
On Nov. 11, the town held its Veterans Day services. In the picture is James Elmer, Vietnam War veteran from Victory, and others attending the program. Speaking to more than 60 in attendance were Ethel Barnes, gold star mother; Robert Bolling, veteran and retired New York State Trooper; Sheila Tucker, Cayuga County historian, and Paul Cady, Cayuga County Commander of the American Legion.
I would like to thank our town board members and the public for their support of our history center and museum. We have received many donated items this year for which we are grateful and have seen well over 250 visitors.
The town of Victory and especially all of the Red Creek Central School alumni in the town would like to congratulate Coach Don Hartley, Assistant Coach Knox and his soccer team, the RCCS “mules” for another fantastic year winning the state title. It was a great accomplishment and we are very proud of them. The boys are Ryon Adams, Shane Bradley, Reis Cunningham, Kevin Dates, Steven Deferio, Ryan Fisher, Colton Ginther, Ryan Gould, Nathaniel Gregg, Alex Keeling, Drew Knox, Trent Knox, Anthony Losurdo, Ryan Pudlowksi, Keyan Scutt, Cody Sherman, Don Stevenson, Matt Treby, Brandin Vanderbush and Eli Vitale.
The Most Valuable Player award went to Ryan Fisher, and the 2008 Birds Eye Foods Section V Boy's Soccer Player of the Year award to Eli Vitale.
Coach Hartley has won 22 Section V championships and six state championships.
Congratulations to all the students, parents, staff, support staff and Superintendent David Sholes on a job well done.
The town of Victory wishes everyone a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
