According to Sgt. Don Gosline of APD, Jeffrey Kastick, 55, of 7250 State St. Road, Auburn, was traveling westbound on Clark Street in his four-door 2005 Chevy Cobalt when he veered off the right side of the road just east of Corcoran Drive at 10:42 a.m. He then crossed over to the north side of the road, sped up and veered off, going airborne and eventually striking a home at 331 Clark Street.
Kastick was removed from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Lillian Kimak, 84, who has owned the home for 65 years, was in the bathroom brushing her teeth at the time of the accident. She said she heard a bang and then everything flew across the room.
Every room in the house is damaged, she said. The force of the impact knocked all of the pictures off the walls, moved furniture and pushed over lamps. She said even the house's front posts were jostled.
Numerous police and fire department vehicles blanketed a segment of Clark Street Friday morning and cordoned off the road from Corcoran Drive to Wheeler Street to vehicular traffic.
Onlookers from nearby houses and businesses gazed at the scene as emergency responders removed Kastick from the gray-tinted car ensnared in the white house and a bush alongside it, placing him on a stretcher and into the ambulance.
While an exact cause for the accident had not been determined Friday, Gosline said speed and failing to keep right may have been contributing factors.
